I was interviewed by the folks at LA New Media from the show floor of the New Media Expo 2008.
NOTE: It takes about 40 seconds before they hand me a mic to use.

At this point in time Folk Media is split into two main branches.
One of which is Folk Media Network (formerly known as "Folk Media at Ning"). This blog will focus on building a community of new media creators and sharing resources. You’ll find training opportunities, tips, and helping hands. If you need someone to help you shoot next weekend, information on the latest HD Camcorders, or would like to pitch or discuss show ideas… this is the place to be.
On the other hand, Folk Media will keep…

I posted earlier this month about some of the goals and objectives that FolkMedia will be rolling out this year. I wrote that I would like each member to do a double take when looking at their 2008 tax return. I meant that. But in order for this to happen we need to focus our efforts around
these key…

Hello FolkMedia Team,
I am writing this post on the last day of 2007. We are looking toward a great year ahead and I want to lay out a quick roadmap of where I see us headed. This isn't comprehensive by any means it just gives a roughed in look to 2008.
1) I see us expanding our network of people… Continue

I just posted this bit of info on Any Given Tuesday, but wanted to share it with all the Folkies: I'm teaching Intro to Podcasting at the Community College for Baltimore County in Catonsville starting in January. Now, I imagine Folkies are a bit beyond an entry-level course in podcasting, but you might know some future Folks who could use the remedial course!

Hey Folk Media Team,

Though I'm still a tad tired from the bust past week, I had a chance to check out the Government Video Technology Expo with Joel on Friday. Despite only being able to attend for a few hours (college does that), from what I saw only reinforced the idea of where this new media is taking us.
The Conference had as many bright lights and cool gadgets as one can shake a highly technological stick at but deep down did the Conference actually have anything useful? Thankfully past all of that the Co…

Working to create content is strange when one does it for a living. I can't think of something I'd like more than to work on a creative project of my own that wasn't structured around the making of money. At the same time, the structure of the deadline-based environment seems to drive me to produce creative work, and frankly, some of my most technologically sophisticated work arises out of the need of a client-contractor relationship, under the auspices of a deadline.
So the question th…

Hello Folk Media Team,
Just wanted to give everyone a quick overview of what we covered at the
meeting so you can remember the details. We had lots of discussion and
suggestions from the group.
I once again shared the vision for Folk Media. I envision it as a "farm
team" for emerging content creators. It is a place that everyone can
start and move toward actual skilled production. We have many projects
coming down the pipe and we all need to increase our skill set to be
abl…
